Dr. P. Rita Nikiema attended the UNU-WIDER Summer School in collaboration with the Development Policy Research Unit (DPRU) at University of Cape Town (UCT) on labour markets and economic development which was held at the University of Cape Town on 17-29 November 2019, Cape Town, South Africa.
The official opening of the Summer School took place on Monday morning, 18 November 2019 by Professor Kunal Sen, Director of UNU-WIDER, and Professor Haroon Bhorat, Director of DPRU who delivered the fundamentals in labour market for development. During afternoon, each participant was requested to deliver a short five-minute presentation (with slides) of the main objectives of his/her proposal.
The two intensive weeks are dedicated to lectures every morning and data lab training sessions on afternoon where participant applied what learnt during morning lecture.
We have the opportunity to discuss on labour market theories with Gary Field (the best theoretician on labour market) on the first two days; the following days are divided in two main sessions’ morning and afternoon. In morning sessions, we had lectures on applied methods for labour markets analysis in developing countries. These methods are RDD, PSM, DiD, IV, experimental methods and and panel data. On afternoon are dedicated to computer lab.
On the last day of the Summer School, Friday, 29 November 2019, students are requested to deliver a final presentation of their research proposal taking into account what they have learnt during lectures and discussion with courses instructors.
At end, each participant received a certificate.
